Summer School Holidays

This year seems to be flying past. We are currently in the middle of a heatwave! The first this length of time since 1976 for those of us old enough to remember. The schools are about to break up for the summer holidays and how long is it in your household before the kids are bored?

Perhaps this would be a great time to get them interested in a new hobby rather than staring end lessly at their phones or tablets.  We have a wide range of craft tools to encourage them to get started on a new hobby including a range of woodwork tools. My young neighbour has made himself a catapult with the help of my chisels having spent over an hour looking for the right piece of wood to use and now spends what seems (!!) like hours knocking empty drink cans off a little shelf he also built.  another option maybe creating jewellery with the help of our craft wire and precision pliers.

Whatever you get up too in the coming weeks, even if a break from amusing the kids with a glass of wine in evening why not have a browse on our website https://pagesoftools.co.uk  which is open 24/7

Precision Pliers

Most crafts need the basic tools to get started but have you considered what type of craft pliers you will need? You may say well a simple combination plier should do the trick and many, myself included started off with a pair of these but now there are so many different types and sizes available it can be quite confusing. Generally the types that are most popular are side cutters which are used for cutting standard wire but if you are cutting precious metals we would recommend the razor sharp cutters as gold & silver being softer metals may flatten in the cutting process not giving a clean cut.

Next for jewellery makers are the various type jaws for making rings and flattening clasp and joints again there is a wide range to help with these. I recently visited a jewellery store and was amazed to see the jeweller`s work space on view and we struck up a conversation as too the pliers he found the most useful and was told the snipe nose pliers were the ones he liked the best as nose did narrow towards tips. They come with either a serrated jaw or a smooth jaw. Another interesting point he made was his pliers no longer had springs in them (although were there when purchased, but chose to remove) as he was used to using them having been a jeweller for over 50 years, but pointed out when first starting it is best to keep springs in place as actually makes them easier to use. Also he pointed out most people tended to buy only one pair of pliers, where as in fact it is far easier to have one pair to hold work and the other to work on piece rather than using a vice which again if over tightened could damage work and also you do not have to be undoing the vice every time you wish to move the piece to work on.

We also stock pliers for other crafts and hobbies including model railways. These include the Xuron track cutting pliers which are made in the USA.

If you have a moment (not that we all do dueing the summer school holidays (!) why not have a cuppa and browse our range of Craft tools at pagesoftools.co.uk

Thank you for visiting our blog today.

Craft it yourself

There is a great new programme just started on Channel 4 on a tuesday evening called Craft it yourself. The presenters are Clemency Green, Ant Anstead and Robin Johnson. Each week they do a makeover of a room in a house showing easy ways of transforming the room.

The first was a much unloved & unused dining room and they chose a Cuban feel which was both relaxed and very useable. They show ideas of how to make things with a rating from 1 to 10 as to how hard it should be and also give a timescale for each project.

Also included is several easy quick ideas which are fun, then there is a section where one of the three will try a new craft. This week Clemency tried blacksmithing and made a kitchen knife! Courses can be found throughout the UK and range from £200.00. All in all it was a very enjoyable watch and there are 6 in this series. As a retailer of Craft & Hobby tools we found it very interesting at pagesoftools.co.uk I hope you will tune in and perhaps be inspired to start your own projects.

Kitchen Knives

Well I must admit that these Kitchen Knives aren`t actually hand or craft tools but could not resist these. They are made by Fiskars in Germany and are a good quality knife. They are now discontinued and new knives have a black rather than white handle (?) Still the same quality knives though with stainless steel blades. We stock too types, namely a carving knife with a straight cutting blade and also a bread knife with a serrated cutting edge.

We agree this isn`t one of our usual lines and could not decide which category was best suited but settled on our Hardware category where they can be found using links provided or simply go to website pagesoftools.co.uk and can be found using the refined search button.

We have also added some work/garden gloves with a non-slip latex palm and are available in 3 popular sizes which can be found in our DIY category. Happy browsing and remember we are always happy to help if you can`t find just what you are looking for.

Category Management

The sweltering heat has cooled at last on the South coast and we have been busy finding ways to make your shopping experience even better and easier at our website pagesoftools.co.uk

We have been making our filters within each category more refined and also changed the order in which our listings are shown making it even easier to find the products you are looking for. We had a look at some websites and found some search boxes were not at all helpful and even though we knew they stocked products we were looking for the search could not find them! As a customer I find these very annoying and so have been looking in even closer detail to our own search critera and am happy to say it really is working rather well.

We have moved our most popular products to the first page in each category but is still well worth a look at other pages or simply use our filters either by brand or product to find what you are looking for. If for any reason you can`t find what you need please drop us an email using our contact us form found at bottom of homepage or the link provided in this blog. We answer messages within 12 hours even over the weekend period as the joy of online shopping is that you can do it when it best suits you (and saves on looking for that expensive parking space!) Have a great weekend

Heatwave

Well, alot going on today (18/6/2017) Firstly a very Happy Fathers Day to all the brillant Dad`s out there. Then the London to Brighton Bike race takes place today, yikes and what happens? We have the hottest day of year with it reaching temperatures of 30 degrees in London and almost as hot on south coast although the sea breeze will be welcomed at the finish I am sure.

As ever when we have a bit of `warm` weather in the Uk everyone seems to go into a meltdown and call it a major heatwave and yet other countries simply call it Summer!! You have to love the English weather! But whether you like sitting in sun or prefer the shade we can be found at pagesoftools.co.uk for all your Craft Tools and more and we are open 24/7 so you can shop when it suits you. Have a wonderful Sunday

Metric Drill Sets

Lazy Sunday morning in Sussex so decided to list some more Drill bit Sets at pagesoftools.co.uk . They are both made by Toolzone which we have recently started stock their products as have some great drill sets.

One being a 15pc Cobalt Set which contents 5% Cobalt adding not only extra strength to the drill bits but also lengthens the use of the bits. They are suitable to use on all metals including stainless steel, sheet metals, non-ferrous metal, high alloy steels, soft steels and aluminium making them a good all round drill bit. Sizes range from 1.5mm to 10mm.

The other set is a 51pc HSS high polish finish set and it is unusual as the sizes go up in 0.1mm increments from 1mm through to 6mm. So if you need odd sizes that most standard sets miss as commonly go up in 0.5mm increments this may well be the set for you. We do stock a huge range of drill bits bot in sets or sold as Single pieces in metric and imperial sizes, starting from a Micro size 0.2mm going up to a 50mm in a forstner wood bit. We like to think we have a drill bit to suit most jobs but if you can not find what you are looking for let us know using our contact us form found at bottom of homepage or use link on blog where we will do our best to help.
